Description
Reporting to the board:
A good board has a good work plan which details a self-audit process, a reporting plan for their principal and keeps them aware of what’s coming up.
More than that, an effective board also knows what they need to do and has a plan to do it. They know what type of reports they want, how they should be presented, when they’re to be delivered and what sort of information should be in them. Using a rolling, self generating colour-coded customisable 3-yr work plan and the right reporting templates goes a long way to assist in this area. The benefits are:
-
The board knows what its doing!
-
Authors of reports know what is expected of them and when. They do not have to guess what they ‘think’ the board wants.
-
Reports from different authors have a similar look and layout so that trustees know what to expect and what to look for and where to look for it.
-
Different types of reports will convey different types of information in different ways for different strategic reasons. (FYI, Graphic, In-depth, In-brief, Variance, Compliance etc.)
-
A well designed template can ‘guide’ the author on how much information to include and what sort of information is necessary.
