To be a great board there are four absolute imperatives:
  1. A clear vision: This is your school’s vision. It’s where you’re headed or what you’re going to be like in the future. Challenging, exciting setting you apart from the others.
  2. Ongoing improvement: This is the same for all school boards because their business is about governing a school. It’s simple: everything you do plugs into on-going improvement of teaching and learning!
  3. Robust audit: This means not only constructively reviewing the principal with rigour, it also means robustly checking yourself as well.
  4. A committed TEAM approach: This is a no-brainer! Good relationships, good team work and everyone committed to the task.

Trustee training is a long term strategic investment into ongoing improvement in teaching and learning. No organisation, no team, no group wanting to stay at the top of their game can do it without regular training. They all train, they all spend time, money and energy up-skilling. If they don’t there is an inevitable decline in efficienty, production and effectiveness. Regular training is a powerful tool.
